The Games A Foot! – Art Quilt. 17″ X 13″. This is the second of my 50th birthday art quilts. This is for my second oldest son Tony. One of his greatest accomplishments was to go to work for the Alaskan Airlines corporate office in Seattle. That means I get to fly standby for free. Pretty cool gift. Anyway, one of his favorite book series is “Sherlock Holmes”. My sister Kathy, the ultimate book shopper, looks for old books about sherlock and we surprise him with them.

At first, I had many different ideas for this art quilt project. Of course, this classic picture of him had to be included. Then there was his residence at 221b Baker St. Which I finally realized was a fictitious address.

Then there was the Hounds of Baskerville. Here is a picture of Baskerville hall. I printed it out and blew it up and wasn’t happy with the results. No matter how I tried these shots wouldn’t work together in on art quilt.

Then I came across this picture of sherlock items. It represented Sherlock Holmes, to me, so I painted it with my color scheme.

Very rarely can I find a picture that has all I want in it in the first place? This is only the second time in all of these years that the picture represented my subject madder. The other quilt is one that my friend Debbie has hanging in her sewing room. Most of the time I spend a lot of time looking for the right elements to create my art quilts. This picture though was perfect and I hope that I did it justice. We will see what Tony says…..
