the-girlssky-and-cloudsdrawing-on-light-tablegetting-down-to-worki-love-my-artim-half-way-thereim-finishedAs I mentioned in my previous post, how wonderful  it is to teach art to children.  In my art studio I have room for up to three art students at a time.  My last studio was a lot bigger and so I could teach a lot more students but while I enjoy that occasionally I still like my one on one sessions that happens with two or three budding art students.  So now it is week two of working with my little friend Allyson and her cousin Lauren. Here they are enjoying their art lesson.  These girls not only love to be creative but also love to hang out with each other.  In fact after their class they were going to have a slumber party.  Allyson started her project last week so she was able to work pretty much on her own this time. It was Laurens first lesson and we were starting from scratch.  She picked out her subject matter pretty quickly and got to work drawing on the light table.  I found it really cool because Allyson having already done this stage was painting and encouraging Lauren at the same time. Lauren was very enthusiastic and a little nervous about making a mistake.  I explained to her that there are no mistakes just new adventures as to which direction her art work goes. It is important that each student has the freedom to let their art go out of the lines so to speak.

We worked for a couple of hours and then it was time for our lunch break.  The girls were so focused on their art projects that I ended up running  to a local place for two corn dogs, tater tots and a hamburger while they continued  painting on their art quilt project.  It was really fun working   with them because  they listened to instructions and then each  experimented a little and then added it to their painting. One of my focuses of teaching is to be able to share how to do my art medium and not get in the way of their own art style.  Here are the pictures of their projects and you can clearly see how much they enjoyed their day.  It is truly a blessing to be able to impact children’s lives in such a positive way.    I feel honored to be able to impact these two girls lives.

Allyson  was able to finish painting  her project and decided she just wanted the fabric block to hang on her wall at home.   Lauren got half of her block done and so we agreed to have another lesson to finish Laurens and maybe start another art project. Will keep you updated to their progress and let me know if you have had similar experiences that you want to share.  Karen
