Karen’s Rock Mania- Idaho special….Yesterday evening Ray and I took Jet the dog for a run.  Because he runs for at least a quarter mile in all directions when he first jumps out of the truck, it is better if there is no other living thing around.  We headed to the desert and took a long winding road and found these cool head gates out in the middle of nowhere. Notice the picture of the top of the head gates and a perfect shadow of me and my phone.  At this time of the year the canal is empty so I hiked down into it and got these great shots of lava rock smoothed by the water.  It was the perfect art inspiration area. As you already know I am fascinated by rocks of any kind.  When I was 17 years old I traveled to Hawaii for two weeks and that is when I first experienced lava rock.  My friend and I even went swimming in a blow hole created by a lava flow dumping into the ocean. What was I thinking! Four years later I moved to Bellevue, Idaho and  what is on the road along the way?  Well lava rock of course.  I can remember my brother in law telling me at the time not to pick up any rocks for posterity because it was protected by the state.  When my kids were little, each year the school would go on a field trip to Craters of the Moon.  Of course I volunteered to go  because I got to visit even more kinds of lava rock. Check out my picture of ray standing over me with the sun right next to him.  He kind of looks like an alien “We come in peace” moment. After crawling out of the canal I took a little hike and came across the beginnings of spring wild flowers.   The rocks with a wire lasso were really awesome. Can’t you see an art quilt idea? I liked the rocks with the wood too.  It was wonderful spending two hours exploring.  Just me, my hubby and Jet.  There wasn’t much of a social distance problem out there because the cattle was at least a mile away.  Hope these pictures inspire you….Enjoy
