“Spring Has Sprung”- Have you ever wanted to do an art piece that is bold and powerful?  Well that was what I was thinking about 3 or 4 years ago when I began planning and painting “Spring Has Sprung”.  I knew there had to be some big flowers with depth and of course bright.  Do you recognize the flowers?  They were used to advertise Premerin hormone commercials.

You would see them in their tv adds and in all the women’s magazines.  Anyway they are the inspiration for the large pink flowers.  On this piece I painted the top very quickly and then added the purple and then painted the border.  But I forgot that you have to put the purple border fabric all the way to the outside edge of the border and I didn’t.  So you could see the dark purple line half way through the border.  I was so frustrated with it that it went in the future bin.  Now it is time to take down the Christmas quilt hanging in Karen’s Place.  I really didn’t have a spring quilt.  Then a “AHA” moment why don’t I finish the pink flower quilt.  What I came up with is butting up a piece of purple fabric the same hue and similar color and used heat and bond to fuse it to the back of the border and that disguised the dark line.  Quilting it was pretty easy because like many of my art projects I paint the quilting lines in.  You would probably not notice it because I am stitching around the painted features.  I love how this art quilt makes me think of spring.  As you can see the back is as playful as the front by using the same color thread on the top and bottom. The pebbles quilted into the purple looks awesome on the back. Now I want to do more big flower designs.  Oh by the way I was driving to Twin Falls for a early dentist appointment and took a picture of this awesome sunrise.  Sure goes with my “Spring has Sprung” quilt….K
