Shoshone Library Quilt – For the love of books! This brings me to a new project that is in the works here at Karen’s Place. Do you remember when the first “Kindle” tablet came on the market and there was a prediction that books would eventually become obsolete. And lately have you noticed that most of your new appliances, electronics ect. come without a user manual . You have to go online to Ytube to find out how to set them up. When I got my new kitchen stove a couple of months ago I had to go online to set the clock and find out how to use the convection oven. Anyway I started paying attention to what I read for pleasure and education. Guess what? Very little on the tablet, mostly it was books and magazines. I am a visual person and the cover of a book is part of the content in my opinion. 
I have a lot of quilter friends who are also ferocious readers and my friend Sarah shares her books with me on a regular basis. She just got me started on a new series with several editions. 
Okay that said the point of this discussion is that a few of us ladies are making a quilt for the Shoshone Library. The theme is “For the love of books” of course. 
Here was their assignment- 12.5 x 12.5 blocks depicting what they loved about books. It can be any quilting design you choose.
The finished quilt will be hung vertically above the book shelves in the library.
Several women made blocks for this display. Then Pat Dailey and I got together to start the process of assembling them into something wonderful. I wanted the quilt to look like a bookshelf .
We decided to sew this old school with our awesome featherweights.
Our space display is only 30 inches tall but it was several feet long. As you can see in this picture it will look like a low credenza with books and things sitting on top and on the attic window shelves. We estimate that this quilt will be about 13 feet long. 
This picture depicts the finished blocks with the attic windows attached. It’s funny how anything in the shop can be a make shift design wall. Anyway here are a couple other pictures of our design in progress.
