Last week we had our quilt guilds “Quilting Picnic at the Park”. It was a lot of fun and the weather was wonderful. At past picnics the temperatures have hovered around 95 and higher but this year it rained about an hour before the event and the clouds keep it pleasant. This was my first meeting as president of the DSQ Quilters and of course as my friend mentioned earlier that day “you probably have butterflies in your stomach, don’t you?” That just about covered my nervousness. One of my ideas to liven our meetings up is to wear an outrages hat to each meeting. So this meeting started with my very large hat. My husband donated this hat to be decorated with the stipulation that nothing was permanent and it came back in one piece. This is a special hat that we bought in Houston, Texas several years ago. That is why it is so big because you know things are always bigger in Texas. As you can see in the picture it was going to be a tall order to not damage it. I ended up tying a large hatband around the crown first and then glued everything to it. The bobbins, thread, charm bracelet and ribbon were sewn on with 10lb fishing line (of course I used his fishing line). Anyway I just keep adding items till it seemed finished. How do you like the quilters credo “I am a registered fabric-aholic” and “We live to quilt”? You will notice on the crown the large grandmothers flower garden block, now there is one less for the quilt I started a couple of weeks ago. It set the tone for the hat though and was worth the donation. At six o’clock members started to arrive including a husband and one toddler. We ate and held our meeting and then it was time to exchange for the row robin challenge. Some of the ladies could not attend so they sent their rows with their surrogate quilters to be exchanged. Everyone of them were unique and beautiful. We had a great time and stayed and visited for quite a while. < /> It was great. One thing we can all agree on is that quilters love to gather in one place and chat about almost anything. We love admiring other peoples creations and their creativity. It is a special bond that carries us through life with great blessings attached. You will notice a family using a quilt for a tablecloth. It was all hand pieced and quilted, they weren’t quilters they had bought it at a sale. There are a lot of pictures but didn’t want to leave anyone out. Well I better get busy designing the next hat. This one is special because it will be for our 25th birthday party as a guild…..
