Just wanted to let you know that I have moved my art studio. It is one of the reasons that I haven’t been very consistent with my blog posts. Anyway a couple of month ago my husband and I decided to exchange offices in our commercial building here in Shoshone. He needed a store front for his real estate brokerage (EEDAHO REAL ESTATE) and I needed a bigger art work space. So I am in the back of the building now in his old office space and then we opened the wall between that room and another room used for storage and now I have this fantastic work space.art-studio3 In total it is 12ft wide X 38ft long. The coolest thing is that both rooms have 12 ft ceilings. Lots of wall space for bigger projects. One of my mentors suggested I make an art piece at least 6 ft tall and about 10 ft wide so I needed a wall space to do that and in my old space there was too many doors, windows ect. As you can see by the pictures my new art studio is a blank space – mostly a lot of white. My finished art quilts will hang in my husbands office like a little art gallery. At the moment it is echoing in here but that will change in time as I create more art projects. To initiate my new space I am working on two baby quilts for my niece and nephew who are have babies in the next few months. I have one done and the other in progress and it is giving me a chance to move my tools and tables around to make it more user friendly.art-studio1 I opted to leave most of my fabric stash in the basement so as to have more workable space for new designs. All and all I think it will be a great space. The other bonus is that I have room for a little office area because I am going to be wearing many hats this year. I volunteered to be the president of our local quilt quild, an am excited to have the opportunity to not only infuse more excitement into our guild but just to have fun with other creative people. art-studio6 I just found out that this upcoming year is our 25th anniversary, how exciting is that. Anyway it is a big responsibility along with building my art business. One of my goals is to be more inspiring to other artists and quilters and I see this as a chance to blend the two. I did purchase one new thing for the studio and that is a good photo printer. My husband and I were going to share his but the first time I went to his office to use it he was too involved in a project to let me use it. Well the next day I went shopping.artstudio5 It is important for your creative moments to have all the equipment you need to capture your ideas before they are lost. My goal is to get my art studio set up so as to be able to create from start to finish in one space. I don’t know about you but my studio is my creative sanctuary and it has to be right to create in. When I open up the door to my new studio my first thought is “Wow I get to play in here as much as I want!” Let me know how you have set up your work spaces and what are the pros and cons of it….happy creating Karen
