“Falls Precious Cargo -Art Quilt 29″ X 17”. Here is my newest fall wall hanging. It has certainly taken a while to complete this art project.

About three years ago I painted this cool background. At the very beginning, this quilt was going to have a spectacular sunset. Then it developed into an end-of-the-growing-season field and the road to home. I thought it would have a flying pheasant in the front right corner, but every time I painted the pheasant it didn’t look right. It went into a box and sat there until it was rediscovered just the other day.

How about a pickup truck with a lot of pumpkins in the bed? Maybe that could work. In this picture, I am trying out which size truck would balance the art quilt picture. After three different sizes, I settled on this one.

Then I traced it and filled the bed with pumpkins. Using the lightbox I drew the pattern onto a piece of fabric.

Then I painted the fabric and then attached heat and bond to the back to make it an applique. I carefully cut it out deciding to cut out the windshield so the background would show through. It was time to iron it to the background.

After attaching the turquoise truck it needed a little orange in the left-hand corner thus the second set of pumpkins appeared. Don’t you want to live there?

I love how this art quilt project created itself. Even though it took three years, it was worth it. Finally “Fall Precious Cargo” – Art Quilt is a wrap……
