First signs of Fall. Recently I was sitting in my easy chair at home looking out of the window towards the river. It was pretty breezy and some of the leaves were starting to drop from the sugar maple tree. When the trees start dropping their leaves our dog Newfy goes crazy running around the yard trying to catch them in her mouth. It is quite a sight to see. It was a nice break in the action from the many irons I have in the fire. This year at the Twin Falls County Fair I was invited to do a painting demo in the home arts building. Had lots of fun with Deanna, Sharon and Maxine and alot of other new people too. As I was driving home that day I noticed that there was a sign on the highway advertising you pick field pumpkins. It got me thinking of decorating the outside of Karen’s Place for fall. Of course I was already motivated since I was painting pumpkin blocks at the fair for the demo. Right now there is a metal bench that I made about 10 years ago out of a twin size metal bed frame. My friend taught me to weld in exchange for a fabric painting class. It only took one lesson to make me realize that I am not a welder. Using fire to create made me too nervous and was glad when it was done. I actually made two that day and one is inside of my studio with quilts on it. Right now the outside bed frame holds my many pots of geraniums. How can I use the bed frame for fall? Then I remembered that each fall my neighbor gives me corn stalks from his garden so wouldn’t those make a wonderful backdrop for a metal tub, pumpkins and scarecrows. First though I need to make a platform from cedar fenceing to lift everything off the ground. I am so excited I can’t wait to make it! Will post pictures when it all comes together. It seems working on displays is an ongoing thing at the shop and here is the beginning of the Halloween display. I am currently assembling parts in one of the display shelves in the classroom but will ultimately move them to one of the front windows. Looking for props is one of my favorite shopping things to do. The bats came from the local dollar store. Aren’t they great. I love the fall and all the things that go with it. The feel of the air, the smell of the river and the orange, brown, reds that dot the landscape. And of course pumpkin pies. I look forward to it every year. Well it is time to get ready for tomorrows activities…..Let me know what some of your favorite things are about fall…..
